Sorghum 4S: Seed, Stalk, Sap & Syrup

Sorghum 4S: Seed, Stalk, Sap & Syrup In-Person

We have been growing a crop of ‘Rox Orange’ Syrup Cane Sorghum  in our Demonstration Garden from seed that was generously donated to us from Great Lakes Staple Seeds.

Sorghum is a multi-purpose crop that can be used for both syrup and grain, and the by-products can be used for feeding livestock or composting. The project will culminate in a demonstration of pressing the sweet sap from the stalks during our Sorghum 4S: Seed, Stalk, Sap & Syrup program on Saturday,  September 28, 2019. Our friends at Great Lakes Staple Seeds will bring their press and demonstrate the extraction process and show us how to turn those raw materials into a delicious syrup.
